"Verification of structural durability is becoming an essential aspect in design of buildings. However, up to now the existing standards do not guarantee fulfilment of durability requirements during a desired working life with an adequate reliability level. The project is therefore focussed on the development of basic durability concepts for structures and materials considering principles of performance-based approach to structural design. Newly proposed durability limit states should supplement commonly used ultimate and serviceability limit states. Adequate durability criteria for a desired working life will be developed using probabilistic methods of structural reliability. Applications of these methods are required due to considerable variability of basic variables describing environmental influences, actions, structural resistance and materials.
