"The proposed project is focused on the modelling of the effect of wall roughness on turbulent flow in closed and open channels. The wall roughness influences substantially flows in all technical applications and can be an important source of energy losses. The aim of the project is the improvement of methods for mathematical modelling of turbulent flows over natural and artificial roughened walls using results of experimental investigation of flow structure in closed and open channels by means of modern anemometric measuring techniques (hot wire anemometry, laser LDA and PIV anemometry). Mathematical models will be verified using experimental results for flow in an asymmetric diffuser and for flow in an open channel with transversal ribs under various flow conditions. The effect of wall roughness on the laminar/turbulent transition and on the flow separation will be investigated as well.
