"The clay unit masonry structures belong to the most frequent load-bearing structures in buildings. The basic requirements on clay units used in masonry structures consist not only of the thermal and mechanical requirements, but also of the requirements related to their volume stability and durability. At present, the volume stability of masonry units is very important for the introduction of the contemporary construction products and new technologies, where dimensional exactness of constructions elements and units is strongly required. Specialized contributions now available are wittnessing that some clay products and the structural members made from them are within 0.5 to 1.5 - year period dimensionally unstable, revealing their early failure. In most cases, the volume changes of the clay units are caused by the humidity content changes during the usual use of buildings.
