"The project concerns with the solution of electrodynamical and electromagnetical processes in adjustable-speed generator-motors. These machines operate with constant frequency in the stator determined by the power network and with variable frequency in the rotor which enables control of the machine's speed. Such a system consists of the generator-motor, converter connected to the rotor, adjustable blade turbine, control system, transformer and other devices. These systems will be used in pumped-storagepower plants where water is pumped to a higher level during energy surplus in the power network (the turbine operates as a pump and the electric machine as a motor) and water drives the turbine and machine operating as a generator when the stabilisation of the network or additional power is required. The use of adjustable-speed machines increases the turbine's efficiency by up to 10% in comparison to the constant-speed machines (at lower loads).
