The investigation of geometric dimensions of the matter with such an extremely high resolution is accomplished during atmospheric conditions, so that measured results are influenced by time variations of the refractive index of air. Therefore it is important to know the instantaneous value of the index with very high resolution during these measurements. Study of novel methods for direct determination of value of the refractive index is the main goal of the project. The proposal of the measuring methods will be based on construction of two independent laser systems. The first of them will determine the value of the refractive index with coarse resolution but the system works in the full-size range of possible values of the index.
