"The project is focused on fundamental and applied research of special optical fibres, including elliptical-core and microstructured optical fibres. It is motivated by the practical use of the special optical fibres in optical communications and in sensors of various physical quantities. The scientific goal is to obtain original results on physical properties of the special optical fibres and to realize a new fibre-optics sensor of temperature and strain. The project makes use of precise methods oftime-domain and spectral-domain interferometry, tandem white-light spectral interferometry and other optical methods combined with computer modelling. The project is based on the collaboration with the foreign research teams. In addition, the foreign laboratories provide the technological preparation and structural characterization of the special optical fibres. In this way the joint research supported by the project provides the access to the present state of knowledge in the field. The project"@en .
