"After fundamental political changes in Europe the necessity to establish large interconnected power systems becomes one of the most important technical topics. The main demands can be enumerated as security, reliability, low enviromental polution and economic efficiency. Therefore the existing power systems have to be suitably adapted to the new conditions, mainly in the following technical innovations: operational devices using high power electronics, power system operation, controle and protection techniques, steady and dymamic simulations and evaluations of power system effects and mainly the power supply reliability which is given by the continuity of power supply in the requested amount and for the requested time to the given place of consumption. It can be measured by the probability with which the continuity of the power supply can be reached for a given time and depends on the interaction of the power system reaction on a given disturbance at a given place and on the so called"@en . .
