In spite of the great popularity of the Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) methods in industry and as well as in the academic sphere, it seems that something like that is still lacking. Although there exist a large number of works concerning ZN methods, all these are empirical likewise theoriginal paper. The main subject of the project is to provide an strictly exact theoretical based revision and generalization of ZN type methods by the solution of the newly formulated robust design problem. This way it is expected that we obtain simple and reliable algorithms for automatic tuning of industrial controllers based on the minimal amount of process information.
