"In many industrial processes, and sharply in thermal heat and power processes, controlled and manipulated variables are simultaneously connected with continuous-valued dynamics and with parts that have logical or more generally discrete-valued character.Thus, it is natural that they should be modelled as hybrid systems with tight interactions between continuous and logical/discrete parts. Traditional approaches rely on separate designs of controllers for continuous and for logical/discrete parts of the process. Control performance achievable by these separate designs is often much limited. This fact motivated the proposed project.
