"The project aims to apply the new knowledge into new and optimized technologies of continuously cast billets of small and large diameters (cc 130 mm, cc 400 mm). New knowledge will be measured by the investigator of the project (V\u0160B-Technical University of Ostrava) and by the project co-investigator (ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s.). New and optimized production technology will be applied into industrial conditions of two billet CCMs (continuous casting machines). New findings will be achieved by using three unique devices for dynamic thermal analysis that allow studying material properties under different conditions and methods in the laboratories of the project investigator. The liquidus and solidus temperatures, the temperatures of phase transformations of steels, and thermal capacities will be studied. New knowledge about material properties will be also investigated using thermodynamic models. The boundary conditions of continuous casting process will be also determined during solving of presented project. New knowledge will be used in unique numerical simulations of continuously cast steel solidification and will be identified on the basis of the simulation and by the validation in real plant conditions. Billets are produced for the manufacture of seamless pipes for demanding applications (steel grades according to API). Buyers of these billets are particularly domestic pipe manufacturer ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Ostrava a.s., but also a completely new pipe mill, ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Jubail in Saudi Arabia. Successful production of billets and new knowledge in this area are essential to maintain and develop the production of billets of high quality with a competitively affordable price. Production of small diameter billets on one side and the production of large diameter billets on the other, can be described as very demanding.
