"A systematic survey of the occurrence and dominance of filamentous microorganisms in activated sludges from Czech wastewater treatment plants has not been performed so far. Nevertheless, the operational experience, especially from nutrien removal activated sludge systems, indicates an increasing extent of problems caused by filamentous microorganisms with biological foaming being the most urgent problem. The main goal of the project will be to obtain reliable information on the frequency of occurrence of individual filamentous microorganisms and on the variations in filamentous types abundance during the year. The identification of filamentous microorganisms will be based on the Eikelboom\u00B4s technique of microscopic examination. In doubtful cases the new technique of in-situ gene probes will be applied where possible. The national survey will be accompanied by batch tests for obtaining reliable data on kinetic and metabolic properties of the most common filamentous microorganisms. The results of bat"@en .
