"The aim of project is to demonstrate a twenty-percent risk reduction of number and volume of brain infarctions detected using MRI examination 24 hours after sonotrombolysis during carotid endarterectomy (CEA) or carotid stenting (CS) in 5% level of significance. 120 patients indicated for CEA (60 patients) and CS (60 patients) will be enrolled into the study and randomized to subgroup 1 with 40-minute sonothrombolysis during CEA or CS using diagnostic 2MHz probe and maximal diagnostic energy and subgroup 2 without sonothrombolysis during CEA or CS. We hypothesize that activation of fibrinolytic system during TCD monitoring can lead to acceleration of recanalization of small artery occlusions caused by microembolization during CEA and CS. The second aim is to compare number and volume of brain infarctions detected using MRI between CEA and CS patients."@en .
