"The goal of the project is to investigate the intrinsic intermittent character of plastic flow of crystalline solids, which reflects self-organization of dislocations and other crystal defects. As proven recently, a scale-free, correlated avalanche-like collective motion of dislocation ensembles manifests itself in a wide range of time scales, from milliseconds to seconds, provided that sufficient resolution is warranted for the measurement of the parameters of plastic flow, for example, by using acoustic emission techniques. The time scale below 1 ms remained unexplored so far, although experimental evidence was found quite recently that such interpretation also concerns this scale, traditionally related to “elementary” AE events. It can be suggested that the temporal structures associated with such “elementary” events can serve as signatures of different deformation processes and characterize correlations between defects. Thus, the main objective of the project is a comprehensive investigation of t"@en . . . . "Multiscale investigation of the intermittence of plastic deformation using acoustic emission."@en . .
