"The goal of this project is the improvement of the uniformity of quality of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) latexes manufactured by the continuous emulsion copolymerization in the cascade of stirred tank reactors. Important outcomes of this project are going to be optimum strategies for the minimum production of off-spec products during the grade transition between SBR latexes with different content of styrene and different Mooney viscosity. Impacts of sudden technological changes, e.g. changes in the reactant feed streams, on the latex quality will be minimized. Achieving the goals of this project only with experimental data obtained in the laboratory or in the production line of SBR latex would be time-demanding, costly and hardly feasible. Therefore we are going to construct and employ an advanced mathematical model of the polymerization process for production of SBR latex. Empirical know-how about the process will be gradually incorporated into the computer-aided program package."@en . . . .
