Despite theoretical importance, only few empirical studies were done in the wild that unambiguously decomposed variation in phenotype into its heritable (additive genetic) and environmental components. Such a task is most complicated in taxa with extended parental care such as in birds, as parental effects on offspring performance are often correlated with the genetic ones. In such cases experimental approaches are needed to distinguish effects of the two components on offspring. In the proposed project I will solve this issue in a population of the collared flycatcher. I monitored this population in long-term and revealed here unusually high natal philopatry.
