"2010-12-31+01:00"^^ . "The aim of the project is to use satellite data to investigate properties of high frequency plasma waves in the solar wind. We will focus on waves close to electron plasma frequency, observed in association with solar wind perturbations and in the vicinity of planetary shock waves. In spite of the large volume of existing literature on the topic, the processes responsible for the intense observed modulation of these waves and their damping in the case of large amplitudes still remain unexplained. In the frame of this project, we will use multi-point CLUSTER data to separate spatial an temporal effects contributing to wavepacket modulation. We will also attempt to characterize the polarization and dispersion relation of the Wales using multi-component waveform measurements of STEREO probes. Data from CASSINI will be used to compare the properties of Langmuir Wales at different heliocentric distances. This project represents an extension of our recent research of nonlinear decay of"@en .
