The classical aerobic mitochondrion is missing in several groups, but their intense studies revealed presence of various forms of anaerobic mitochondria - hydrogenosomes or mitosomes. So, currently the view is held that the mitochondrion has accompanied eukaryotes since their early \"\"childhood\"\" and that it is essential even if it does not perform most of its typoval functions. The aim of this project is to erase the question mark from this aspect of oxymonad biology by intracellular localization of proteins that could function in such mitochondrial homologue. I enter the project with eight oxymonad strains, cDNA library and 3000 EST sequences ready. I also have a partial estimate of the mitochondrial proteome of Trimastix, the relative of oxymonads.
