"Integrated (transport) simulations are crucial for magnetic confinement fusion research. Particularly for the ITER tokamak and future devices, they provide prediction for the operation scenarios. In the context of the integrated (transport) tokamak simulations, free-boundary equilibrium codes play an important role. Compared to more frequent fixed-boundary simulations, free-boundary simulations, which are more challenging, respect the properties and limitations of the experimental devices, most importantly the poloidal field system, hence obtaining a realistic plasma equilibrium evolution. We will develop advanced tools for integrated simulations of tokamak discharges. We are basing on the present work, during which the FREEBIE free-boundary equilibrium code started to be coupled to the CRONOS transport code. We will benefit from the developed methods in developing free-boundary and control capabilities within ITM and apply the developed tools for ITER scenario development.
