"Dust grains can be found in various plasmas cold enough for solids. Dust grains charge to a surface potential that is govern by a balance of particular charging processes (e.g. photoemission, electron and ion attachments, secondary emissions, field induced emission, etc.). Their importance is given by both plasma parameters and a grain properties (its material, size, shape, and history). To understand the grain evolution, one must study its temporal changes of charge-to-mass ratio together with e.g., that of heat and mass fluxes. Our experimental set-up is based on a 3D quadrupole trap where a single dust grain can be hold for days. The trapped grain can be irradiated by monoenergetic electrons, ions, and photons. The present project is concerned on (1) induced grain mass losses and (2) the secondary electron emission from irregular grains that has been studied simultaneously numerically. We except to apply our results for icy grains in Earth mesosphere and Saturn's rings."@en . .
