Epsilon-caprolactam is presently produced by the reaction of cyclohexanone and hydroxylamine in the presence of sulphuric acid as catalyst. In this process a large amount of ammonium sulphate by-product is produced after neutralization by ammonia. Methylendianiline is currently produced by the reaction of aniline and formaldehyde with hydrochloric acid as catalyst. In this process a large amount of sodium chloride by-productis produced after neutralization with sodium hydroxide. Both syntheses are carried out in the liquid phase. From accessible literature, it seems commercially manufactured zeolites of various structures could be used to catalyze these reactions. Batch experiments will be carried out to ascertain the individual zeolites' activity, selectivity and deactivation. Experiments in the modification of the zeolites will be done to improve the properties of the zeolites for the given reaction systems. Finally,"@en . "3"^^ .
