"Structure and dynamics of plant populations is a result of two main factors, viz. species traits and structure of the landscape in which the species occur. It is the interaction of these two processes that decides on the success of plant populations. Development of local adaptations is an important long-term result of this interaction. In the long run, such local adaptations contribute to the evolutionary change of plant populations. Again, it is not only the evolutionary potential of the species, but also structure of the landscape in which these changes take place that effect the selection pressure at different scales. Studies of these two groups of processes are traditionally separated. However, only the combination of these two make real assessment of the importance of local adaptations possible. The aim of the project is to use present and future PhD. projects at the Department of Botany and partly also Plant Physiology to gain an overall picture of the importance of local adaptations"@en .
