"The project is designed to improve the knowledge of the gas sorption and desorption on coals, and of the extent of these processes in the course of the geological history of SW Upper Silesian Basin under changing depth, pressure and temperature. Furthermore, an assessment is planned of their role in gas generation, migration and accumulation. Unique measurements of methane and CO2 sorption capacity of coals will be carried out at conditions close to those in nature and a numerical model will be developed to simulate the degree of gas saturation, gas losses and replenishment of the coal seams by methane and CO2, and to analyze the sensitivity of the process to the decisive control factors. The scientific results will be discussed in respect to the related impacts on predictability of gas leakage, the atmospheric thermal and chemical budgets (mainly methane and CO2), and on the possible unconventional energy sources."@en . .
