"Project team worked during two last years on developing of new PEMFC anode materials. The Pt and Sn doped ceria in form of nanopowder has been found to be promising material due to formation of a Pt-ceria interface containing ionic Pt (Patent: T. Mori, V. Matolin et al. 2007-216867, Japan). Ionic Pt has been reported as an active specie increasing formation of protonic hydrogen considerably. Rf sputtering of ceria film doped by Pt showed that such technique permits to prepare the catalyst with fully ionized Pt \u00A0in form of Pt2,4+. CNT coating by using this method showed excellent properties in the hydrogen fed PEMFC giving three order of magnitude higher specific power (W/mgPt) than standard PEMFC (Patent: V. Matolin, PV 2008-630, CZ). \u00A0We will continue the new anode material research in order to develop reliable, time stable and active catalyst suitable for practical use in efficient and low cost polymer membrane fuel cells. Finding of new dopants and good CO tolerance of catalysts permitting use of hydrogen feed produced by hydrocarbon reforming will be one of the main goals of the project. Important part of the project will be devoted to the CNT growth by CVD method directly on gas diffusion layers.
