. "The proposed project is an advanced continuation of 2 previously solved projects of GACR: 106/02/0940 (GACR prize 2005) and 106/05/0393. The aim of the project is the preparation of well defined new materials \u2013 intermetallics and ceramics \u2013 preferably single crystals. The crystals will be subjected to complex experimental research to determine physical properties of these materials. Thermodynamic properties of intermetallics and ceramics are often highly anisotropic which emphasize their application potential. Well defined single crystals are then indispensable. We will focus our effort on binaries and ternaries of f and d-metals, their oxides and nitrides. The crystals will be prepared using our implementation of Czochralski technique and floating-zone under well controled conditions and from high-purity constituents. The information about the crystal growth process is one of the main goals of the project, as well as the direct involvement of students of the solid state physics course at Charles University."@en .
