"A high increase of sewage sludge production is expected due to environment protection in Czech Republic in next decade. The land application of sewage sludge common in European develop countries will be considered as very important. Sewage sludge is very specific material. From one point of view is a source of organic matter and all range of nutrients from other side contains heavy metals, organic compounds and pathogens. From the health and environment point of view Cd and Zn are the most problematic.Based on our experiences in the study of Cd, Zn, Pb, Hg, and As behaviour in soils and of their plant uptake and biomass accumulation and our results of Cd, Zn and Hg accumulation in plants after sewage sludge application the following main objectives w ere formed: to investigate sewage sludge disposal plants producing sludge of higher available concentration of Cd and Zn, to make basic Cd and Zn speciation of sewage sludge and to define the transformation of Cd and Zn species of sewage sludge occurred"@en .
