"\"The project focuses on understanding the basic principles behind the long-term effects of increased carbon dioxide levels on the formation, accumulation and emissions of isoprene, monoterpenes and other reactive volatile compounds produced by Picea abies(L.) Karst, the most economically-utilised plant in Central Europe. In this project, the relationship between photosynthesis, the Benson-Calvin cycle and the synthesis of biogenic compounds will also be investigated. A hypothesis will be tested,according to which the distribution and quantity of starch granules and amount of saccharides in needles migh indicate the needles's ability to produce and subsequently to emit increased amounts of biogenic compounds.
