"0"^^ . "The integrity of the genome is a vital condition for both, errorless function of a somatic cell and for the transmission of genetic information in generative cells. In the event of any DNA damage cell starts a cascade of repair processes leading either to the perfect restoration of the DNA structure and function or to the introduction of errors which in turn induce more and more mistakes during subsequent cell divisions. Thus miss-repaired DNA is also a source of nuclear instability. In this proposed project we will focus on Arabidopsis thaliana mutants defective in factors playing particular role in processing damaged DNA or other chromatin constituents. As the ends of chromosomes with impaired structure and function can also be a source of genome instabilities special attention will be aimed to telomeres. We will use mainly cytogenetic approaches to map the changes in both, somatic as well as generative cells under genome-destabilizing experimental conditions. The advantages of this plant model"@en .
