"In this project, it is proposed to explore several adaptations associated with diapause in Colorado potato beetle (CPB), to get an insight into their control, and assess the possibility of their artificial disruption in pest control. The manifestations and the endocrine control of reproduction, feeding and digestion, oxidative defense mechanisms and flight will be examined. The investigations would focus on elaboration of a scoring system of diapause intensity, its sensitivity to juvenoids, elucidationof ecdysteroid role in gametogenesis and the verification of the presence of diapause peptide. The diapause associated proteinase changes and characterisation of proteinase inhibitors in midgut will be studied. The changes in reactive oxygen and nitrogenspecies as well as the antioxidant mechanisms in the midgut would be examined.
