"The project is focused on the study of uptake and transport of heavy metals by mycelium of wood-rotting fungi and on the investigation of inhibitory effects of heavy metals on the fungi. In some cases, metal content in fruit bodies exceeded tens orhundreds of ppm. However, preparations based on copper and chromium salts belong to the most frequently used wood-protective fungicides. Only a few works describe the uptake of metals and their transport through mycelium of wood-rotting fungi. Accordingto our knowledge, no data concerning the further fate of metals (i.e. detoxication pathways) in mycelium have been published. The aim of the project is detailed study of heavy metal uptake by wood-rotting fungi under natural conditions with the emphasison the transport from wood to the mycelium. Inhibitory effects of metals as well as their further fate in mycelium (e.g. deposition in the form of unsoluble particles or transport to vacuoles) will be investigated.
