"The aim of this research is to design and build up an experimental version of a compact X-ray laser (XRL)driven by a pinching electric discharge in a capillary. Such XRL should be a new source of coherent radiation with wavelength shorter than 20 nm. An active medium will be created either by an ablation of the capillary wall material or by injection of a suitable material from an auxilliary source. Theoretical and experimental research is supposed to take place simultaneously. Physical analysis of suchXRL operation will be performed and a computer model describing (1) population inversion time development of multiply ionised ions energy levels, (2) pinching plasma hydrodynamics, (3) ablation from inner capillary walls evaluation and (4) amplification of the resonance X-ray radiation in the active medium will be developed.
