"Analysis and development of methods for reliability evaluation of railway and road vehicles and their subsystems, for assessment of the time to failure, and for determination of requirements on the extent and accuracy of input data (load, material properties, diagnostic quantities) necessary for ensuring the reliability demanded and for determination of optimum conditions for maintenance and renewal. In the development and evaluation of theoretical models for the residual lifetime, the damage accumulation laws and theory of fatigue and of random processes will be used, together with modern simulation methods such as the Monte Carlo method. A part of the input data on loading and failures will be obtained by measurements on real structures of vehicles. The research will provide a basis for optimisation of inherent and operational reliability of transport facilities.
