"Understanding effects of landscape structure and species traits on species distribution is crucial for predictions of the effects of future landscape changes for species diversity. Existing results on this topic are however limited by the assumption that species distribution is in equilibrium. This contrasts with knowledge on the impact of past land use on species composition. Our aim is to analyze the effect of present and past landscape structure and species traits on species distribution. Compared to previous studies we will pay attention to predictions of suitable habitats and compare phylogenetically related species. We will answer 2 main questions: What is the importance of species traits and present landscape structure for species distribution? How is this relationship affected by landscape structure in the past? Results of the project will significantly improve our knowledge on factors determining distribution of species in a landscape."@en .
