"Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease that affects coordination of movement in sufferers, associated with the formation and deposition of amyloid fibrils of the protein alpha-synuclein (AS). Studies of AS aggregation in vitro are associated with hopes for better understanding, diagnosing and therapy of the Parkinson's disease. It has been proposed that oligomeric intermediates on the pathway to fibrilization rather than the fibrils themselves are the pathogenic agents of Parkinson's disease, but efficient methods for their detection are lacking. Our recent results suggested that electrochemical methods may be useful in the research of AS aggregation and particularly of formation of the oligomeric intermediates.
