"The project aims to study and find novel reproducible procedures for preparation of organised-metal-nanoparticles/InP interfaces with improved properties for wider use in gas sensing and x-ray detection. Samples with organized metal nanoparticles/InP interfaces will be prepared by electroless plating and electrophoresis of metal nanoparticles from various colloidal solutions. Metal nanostructures with Cu, Au, Ag, Pt and Pd will be studied and prepared. Microscopic, electrical and optical methods and SIMS analysis will be used for characterization of nanostructures. Correlation between ordering of metal nanoparticles and electrical properties of interfaces, in particular the potential barrier height and loss currents will be studied. Sensitivity of diode sensors with prepared interfaces to low concentrations of hydrogen gas in the air and to nitrogen oxides will be examined.
