"\"Cluster boron chemistry has a rich history in the Czech Republic and is an important and enlarging area of modern inorganic chemistry. Boron clusters are deltahedral cages that have an ostensible limit at 12 boron vertices. Single clusters can, however, be fused together to form \"\"macropolyhedral\"\" clusters that take boron cluster chemistry beyond its 12-vertex limit. Such large boron clusters are becoming important in terms of boron-doping materials for the semi-conductor industry. However, little is known about these large macropolyhedral assemblies and the currently available compounds of its type are not ideal for use in modern ion-implantation technology in the manufacturing of semi-conductors.
