Magnetic analysis of recent and present soils will be used in developing new, comparatively cheap and fast method of outlining the soil contamination in relation to local sources of pollution. Definite identification of magnetic minerals will be performed on the basis of depth profiles of different magnetic parameters on soil samples collected from the vicinity of coal-burning power plants in North Bohemia. Pilot samples will undergo geochemical analysis in order to determine heavy matals (and other poisonous elements) and to correlate their occurrence with the presence of magnetic minerals.
