"21"^^ . "The project is motivated by efforts to understand the brittle-ductile behaviour of crystalline materials. Molecular dynamic simulations of 2D and 3D problems with various loading will be utilized to study: the brittle (fast) and the ductile (slow) microcrack growth accompanied by dislocation emission, further twinning and microcrack nucleation at twins. This will be accompanied by stress calculations on atomic level to find the stress criteria for the brittle or ductile behaviour. We plan also to study the kinetics and acoustic emission during the processes. Modelling will be oriented mainly to alpha-iron, the basic component to ferritic structural steels."@en . . .
