"The main objective of the proposed project is to determine the temperature and time dependence softening during deformation of AZ31 magnesium alloy. Specimens will be deformed at a constant strain rate over a wide temperature range from room temperature to 300 \u00B0C. Stress relaxation tests will be performed at each testing temperature at different stresses(strains). The activation volume will be estimated. The differences between the flow stress after stress relaxation and the flow stress at the beginning the stress relaxation will be measured. An analyses the differences as a function of strain and temperature will give information on microstructural changes caused by a decrease in the dislocation density connected with the internal stress and the changes due to diffusion of solute atoms to moving dislocations. Some specimens will be annealed at higher temperatures after deformation to certain strains. The microstructural changes will be measured using light microscopy."@en .
