"Because of their pronounced electro-optical and nonlinear-optical properties, attractive for potential optoelectronic applications, various organic materials have been studied. The proposed project is focused on the search and investigation of nonlinear-optical properties of new conjugated bonds and ferroelectric (Sm C*) liquid crystals and polymers. In both cases the technology (and experience) of the crystal growth and sample preparation is available in the institute. Experimentally, second and third order susceptibilities will be studied using and third harmonic generation or four wave mixing. The construction of an universal experimental apparatus allowing for the measurement of the nonlinear coefficients is an important task within the project. Possibility of the investigation of powders or molecules in solution (EFISH) will make the search for new materials much more effective, withoutneed for crystal growth for each compound."@en .
