"Laser produced plasma was proved to be an effective source of multiply charged ions. The higher laser power power density, the higher charge state ofions may be attained. The proposed program consists in investigation of the influence of laser wavelength, but mainly of pulse length and power density on parameters of ion stream emitted from the plasma produced on planar targets. The results obtained by newly built iodine laser system PALS in Prague and by 1 ps Nd:glass laser in Warsaw, both with attainable power densities higher than 1x10e16 W/cm2, differing two orders of magnitude in pulse duration, will be compared with each orher and also with results obtained by Nd:YAG laser with power density lower than 1x10e11 W/cm2. Relation between parameters of different ion groups produced are important for the determination of physical processes in the plasma and for optimation of laser ion sources considered to be useful for planned second-generation injectors for large accelerators."@en .
