"We should like to deal with dynamics of the transition from metastable to stable states in nonequilibrium systems within the framework of stochastic approach. Time evolution of this process will be described in terms of Smoluchowski equation with the appropriate transition probabilities. This relation will be solved both numerically and also an approximate formula allowing to estimate the value of time lag will be sought using Greens function technique on the space of the generalized functions. Sinceit is expected that this quantity will be stronly influenced by the metric properties of the activation barrier, also the topological properties of this hypersurface will be analyzed via Morse theory of critical points. Our approach may be applied to arbitrary system with meaningfully defined Gibbs potential, e.g., in ecology (aerosol formation), material processing (crystal growth, formation of diamond film on Si-wafer, etc."@en . . .
