Biodegradable synthetic copolyester along with polylactides (PLA ) seems to be an appropriate replacement of conventional non-biodegradable polyolefins. Biodegradation of these materials was studied under compost condition for various forms differing in their specific surface. Copolyesters proved its good biodegradability under composting conditions. The specific surface of sample was shown to be an important factor affecting the rate of biodegradation in compost, when biodegradation sample forms with higher specific surface was significantly faster than sample specimens with low specific surfaces. PLA also exhibited the same effect but in its particular case, it was much less pronounced.
