This contribution deals with a new algorithm - the Self-Organizing Migrating Algorithm (SOMA), which can be classified as an evolutionary or so called %22memetic%22 algorithm. The principles backing this algorithm are explained and subsequently evaluated forthe integrity of the variously tested functions and examples. This contribution discusses the solution of non-linear programming problems containing integers, and discrete and continuous variables. A novel mixed integer-discrete-continuous and non-lin ear optimization method based on SOMA is set out and described, as well as the required handling techniques for integer, and discrete and continuous variables. It further describes those techniques needed to handle boundary constraints, as well as those needed to simultaneously deal with several non-linear and non-trivial constraint functions.
