The special properties of concrete are, among others, affordability, availability and variability in connection with strength and potential durability, which has made concrete the most used construction material in the world. Taking in consideration the amount of produced concrete and number of realized concrete structures (concrete is used practically in every contemporary construction) it is obvious that optimization of concrete itself as well as concrete structures represents great potential for increasing the complex quality of buildings from the perspective of sustainable development. Particularly there is a significant potential for decreasing negative environmental impacts. The importance of these potentials is proportional to the continuously increasing amount of global concrete use. The special properties of concrete are, among others, affordability, availability and variability in connection with strength and potential durability, which has made concrete the most used construction material in the world.
