The goal of the study was to explore changes of wind characteristics above articulated terrain within city built up areas. An anemometer was placed on a tall building in a selected locality in the centre of Prague (%22Pankrác%22), and the wind speed and direction were observed on a long-term basis. The speeds measured were compared with data from nearby meteorological stations. In stage two, two models of the terrain were made for the west and northwest wind direction in the ratio 1:1250 to explore the speed profiles in the boundary layer wind tunnel %22VZLÚ/KÚ ČVUT%22. Thereafter, the results of this study were used as input data for model tests of the wind effects on the buildings in the ratio 1:400, and for in situ and model pressure measurements. They can be used to design the wind load for buildings in this locality, as well.
