This work was aimed on the investigation of spectroscopic and laser properties of Fe2+ doped Zn1-xMgxSe (x = 0 - 0.4) active media grown by Bridgman technique. Some of these materials have been demonstrated already as suitable active media for broadband and tunable 4 - 5 um radiation generation. Emphasis is given on the magnesium content in the Zn1-xMgxSe matrix and its influence on the output spectrum characteristics as well as temperature dependence from 300 down to 88 K.
