Photonic and plasmonic (nano)structures, especially those with a high-index (metallo-dielectric) contrast and subwavelength feature sizes, are ever more attractive in many areas of basic science and applications. In this overview talk, the attention will be given to an overview of the photonic structures research at the part of the Optical Physics Group at the Department of Physical Electronics, FNSPE, CTU in Prague, in cooperation with the Institute of Photonics and Electronics. From a large portfolio of structures of our recent interests (guided-wave, photonic crystal, plasmonic, metallo-dielectric, magneto-optic, as well as natural photonic structures), several interesting examples will be presented.
