Small metal particles had unique physical and physicochemical properties that made the investigation of these particles an interesting new field of research and its application.By %22small particles%22 are meant clusters of atoms or molecules of metals, ranging in size from <1 nm to almost 10 nm or having agglomeration numbers from <10 up to a few hundred, i.e. species representing the neglected dimension between single atoms or molecules and bulk materials. The hydrated electrons formed reduce part of the silver ions which subsequently agglomerate to form oligomeric clusters and finally nanoparticles of metallic character.
