dcterms:description
Driving car under the influence of alcohol ranks among most strictly punished road traffic offences in Europe. Nevertheless, the share of lethal traffic accidents caused by drivers exposed to effects of alcohol is about 13 %. As experts claim, there is a number of ways how to cut down this traffic accident rate although none of them has proven to be a reliable way to a considerable long-term improvement. There is a quite an extensive group of drivers who believe that a low level of alcohol in their blood cannot affect their reaction time and driving style and this is why they conclude that driving with alcohol in blood is not dangerous. The first section of the paper describes the EU attitude to alcohol-influenced vehicle driving, methods to reduce the numbers of traffic accidents related to the effects of alcohol and general ways alcohol may affect drivers´ behavior. Other paper sections describe the proposed methodology of the collection of valid data taken from the vehicle simulator in order to ascertain the actual effect of low blood alcohol content levels on drivers. Moreover, the paper includes a description of the vehicle simulator used for the execution of the tests and the proposed testing track. Finally, the paper suggests partial conclusions drawn from the experiments and possible analysis of collected data.
