This presentation covers the topic of the simulation technologies used for research tasks and training purposes. It provides a reader with overview of the important milestones and important examples of simulators (and mainly driving simulators) over the world. A special focus is on those devices, which were developed in the Laboratory of Systems Reliability at Faculty of Transportation Sciences, Czech Technical University in Prague. In the next part there is described in detail the architecture of driving simulators and recently used technologies. It concerns all necessary subsystems of interactive simulators, such as visual, audio and motion cueing system, mathematical model of car dynamics, interconnection module and others. A separate chapter is devoted to a unique approach to enhance the visual system with dynamic interior lighting, which is author%22s original contribution to the interactive simulator technology.
